The Rolling2Zwrotnik expedition will have exceptional IT support in the form of special software made using the latest available technologies by Oracle specialists.
Oracle from the beginning of its existence specializes in data processing and constantly improves the tools for storing and analyzing them. The latest product designed for this purpose is an autonomous database that, acting almost automatically, stores and processes data in the cloud.
Experts from the Oracle Consulting Department have written a special system for the project that will allow real-time preview of various parameters determining the current state of the expedition. The system located in a dedicated computing center collects data on an ongoing basis using geolocation technologies. These data are sent to the Oracle database for further analysis and visualization, and for reporting purposes. For data transmission, a generally available GSM network is used, while in the desert version – a satellite telephony system using the Iridium network. An additional element of the system is a mobile application working on the device of the cyclist leader, as well as a digital map, which shows the route along with points of interest marked by cyclists, weather reports and route comments.
The initiative is a great example of how beautiful and useful social initiatives can be supported by modern information technology using mobile technologies, cloud computing, spatial visualization techniques and data analysis, as well as a model called the “Internet of Things” in which various devices are connected to enable data transfer between them.
Follow the progress of our trip and check how we are doing! After zooming in on the map, you can check exactly where the participants are today, what adventures they had and what beautiful view they had after waking up.
